Tactical Squad Amosis by skycat Tactical Squad Amosis by skycat
The first half of Tactical Squad Amosis, for my pre-Heresy Thousand Sons army. They're just basic marines from one of the paint set starter boxes, with the Ultramarines symbol scraped off the left shoulderpads.

See if you can spot the small bits of greenstuffing I did on these. ;)

I think I need to use coloured backdrops when photographing pre-Heresy models. Their white trim and snow bases tend to blend in with the background otherwise. :|

Was this taken in a lightbox?

Yeah, though it's a makeshift box I made out of sprue frames and tracing paper, heh. Not the greatest, and I need better lights, but it'll do for now.

nice work,

even if they're wearing the "wrong" amour ^^"

(Mk II- III was actual by that time, and blablabla,...) no I won't start with that crap again. Nice picture.

Hehe, thank you! :D

And yeah, I know they're the wrong armour - I admit it bugs me a bit, but I try not to let it, heh. I desperately need game-ready troops choices that don't cost 23 points a model. XD

As far as I know, the Sons were actually in MkIV by the time of the Heresy, at least according to most the GW artwork and models I've seen. Got some MkIV armour from Forgeworld waiting for me to customise and paint. XD This was more just a combination of test run for the painting and getting a usable troops choice ready. :D

well, DIY.

The Mk IV has, if i remember right, no raven helmet anymore, but these .. buckles on the right shoulder and leg segments.

buy small tin pearls. Screw small holes in the sections, not deep, just that the pearls fit half way. so, you got semi-globe buckles in that amour ^^

Thanks for the suggestion! But eh, I honestly couldn't be bothered modifying basic starter set models. XD Like I said, they were mostly just a colour test and to help supplement my troops choices for game.

Also, I think you're thinking of the MK V armour there - the MK IV didn't have the studs you're talking about.

i'm IG - I'm not into each and every special names and appearance of these suits.

You will just do fine, go ahead and impress us with clean red and white and a 0,2 mm pencil for that black lines ;)

Hehe, fair enough. I'm hoping to one day start an IG army and customise 'em up as Spireguard allies for my pre-Heresy Thousand Sons.

The black lines are actually blue wash carefully applied with a fine detail brush. :D Never actually thought of using pencil for them, heh. Hmmm...

Find some nice neutral grey? Or airbrush a sheet with Charadon Granite. :)

The GW spray gun is... not unusable. Though I can imagine it being harder in Australia, with the heat.

Yeah, I've heard it's not too bad. It's more the price and the fact that I'd only really ever use it for tanks that makes me go :| at getting it. Mostly the price. XD

I don't know what it costs in Ozland, but in the UK it's cheaper than any other spray gun that I saw on hobby shop shelves when I was looking for one, so that's surprising to me?

Oh, it's definitely cheaper than most any other spray guns. But $55 for the gun itself, and $15 for a single can of propellant, is more than I'm willing to pay at the moment. XD

Yeah, pretty much everything in GW Aus stores is about double the UK or US price. :\ Go to the GW page, choose Australia as the country, and have a look through the prices, heh.

Thanks! :D

And the red/metal is actually highlighted, it's... just not showing up very well in these photos, bleh. Think I need to tweak my light box or get better lights or something.

If they're pre-heresy why are they in Mk7?
Shouldnt they be in like Mk4s?

Practical reason: 'cause I was just testing the colours out on a basic squad from a paint box starter set, and didn't feel like messing around with conversions, hehehe.

Fluff reason: Just 'cause they're wearing pre-Heresy colours doesn't necessarily mean they aren't still around somewhere in the 41st millenium... ;)
