Strange Allies by skycat Strange Allies by skycat
"... I believe we have more pressing concerns. You seem to have a Hive Fleet invasion on your hands."

Not an exact scene from the 40K fic I've been writing, but it gets the general idea of it across. XD More like cover art, heh. Brother-Captain Stern of the Grey Knights and Captain Akil of the Thousand Sons (with their helmets on, 'cause it's stupid to get into a fight without your helmet!) work together to defend an Imperial world from a tyranid invasion.

I didn't do line art for this one! Which is new for me - normally I'm obsessive about my line art, heh. Decided to see if I could pull off a pic without meticulously drawing out all the details first and just painting it straight - it seems to have worked out all right. Still did some base sketches, of course, but nothing much more than general shape and layout scribbles.

A few minor things I'm not entirely happy with, but that's usually the case. Other than those, I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out.

OOOOOH!!  This is awesome! I especially love the electricity/lightning on the sword and Akil's hand.  (I am 99% sure that is Akil, based on the sun-shaped insignia but I could be so very, very wrong....)

The Gehenna Campaign was conducted by Lord Commander DanteChapter Master of the Blood AngelsSpace Marine Chapter and its 3rd Company in 955.M41. They battled against the Necron legions of Szarekh,  the Silent King, amidst the dusty wastes of the world of Gehenna. For three weeks, neither side could seize the upper hand, with Dante's tactical brilliance stretched to its limits in countering the time-space manipulations of the Silent King. The stalemate was broken only when a Tyranid splinter fleet entered orbit, forcing the two armies to break off hostilities and fight the common foe. The impromptu alliance proved to be the Tyranids' undoing. Following the final battle at Devil's Crag, Dante and the Silent King went their separate ways, both forces too battleworn to guarantee victory over the other, and, at least for the Blood Angels, the idea of turning on those they had so recently fought alongside proved a rather distasteful one.
